How wide is a 8J rim?
See attached picture, an 8J rim is 203mm wide so a 195/50R15 tyre will fit fine with a very minimal stretch as it's designed to fit a 7J rim. That means the 205/50R15 will be the correct fitment for the rim as it's the same width as the rim.

thats what i run, its a little stretched, but its still within acceptable range. Most 215/40-17 tires have an approved range of rim widths of 7.0-8.5 inches. A 17x8 rim is in that range - heck, it's even in the middle of the range! Just do it, no worries there.

The recommended rim width for the 275 tire would be 9.5". You might be able to fit it on a 8.5" rim, but no tire manufacturer would recommend that. IMO, the stock 255/45-17 is what you want for that rim. If you want a wider tire, then move to a 9.5" rim.
